Strange Places

Every trip that Rich and I take turns into an unusual journey one way or another. No matter which direction we head from Denver, nothing ceases to amaze us. On more than one occasion he and I have passed through the Southwest on I-40, on bikes and by car. The trip out to Phoenix for the Love party at the beginning of February gave us motivation to stop at one of our most favorite places to make fun of.

For years we've passed signs for what seems to be a creepy, pervert infested playground for children along I-40 called Stewart's Petrified Wood. Free wood for the kids says it all. It's a run-down shit-hole on the side of the highway that looks more like a dump(#2) than a place anyone would want to take their kids. I don't have kids, but if I did, they wouldn't visit Stewart's, ever.

We made it a point to stop there on this trip, having seen the signs and made fun of it for so long now. On our way to Phoenix, I was driving and started passing a line of semis that were holding up the right lane. As I was doing so, Rich belted out, "here's the exit for Stewart's!". I had no time to react or pull onto the off-ramp, we blew Stewart's Petrified Wood.

Fortunately, we did get to stop there on our way back to Colorado. Unfortunately, they were closed. So, Stewart can go ahead and blow us now.

Next time it'll be Knife City and Geronimo's...








Who doesn't get excited about rock shops, meteorites, gold nuggets, fake dinosaurs, mannequins, feeding ostriches, logs, and barb wire surrounding a child-oriented attraction?

Home-Grown

Sativa Snakeskins -

Rushed the job on this slider the week leading up to the Love party. Was going to display it somewhat in Arizona, but Rich and I never ended up setting up - we wanted to walk around and take it all in.

I am pretty happy at how it came out. Rich and I came up with the basic design when I grabbed it out of his storage shed a few weeks back. Got home, came up with the exact design I wanted overall, and started carving it out.

I'm about to start working on the other one, not exactly identical to this one, but same concept. After practicing on this one, the second should come out even better.

Dennis Goodson recently gave me three of his air cleaner shells to engrave on as well. What a guy, buy his shit cuz it rocks, and so does he. More to come -

Love

Long drive in a short amount of time. Hit the road on Thursday before the snow started pounding Colorado, stayed with our friend Carlos in Sante Fe, then on to Phoenix and 75 degree weather for Friday and Saturday night. Got back late last night from a great time with Jeremiah, the AZ scene, and everyone who came from all over. Can't say enough about a small event with such a great turn-out. For the amount of bikes there, there were a lot of amazing rides, restored and chopped. Thanks to Jeremiah for having us at such a killer event, and our good friends Carlos and Doug for giving us places to crash - next year we'll have to bring some bikes.

A Lil Sumthin'

...to show at the Love Party. Had two 35mm front ends lying around, tore one down about a year ago and left it in pieces at Rich's. So, I figured why not go to town on one of them and bring a carved up slider to Phoenix. Been busting my ass this week to get patterns drawn, transferred, carved, polished, and shaded. It's coming along better than I anticipated, but sliders are not an easy piece to engrave. Here's a pic from two days ago, there's more work to be done before we leave on friday....
