I'll be in Texas come this time next week. The bike is back together and riding better than it ever has. Rain or shine, I'm on my way starting Monday. Bikini boxing on Tuesday night in Trinity, Texas...yeah.
Getting the bike ready for more miles this season. Nothing like waiting until the last minute. Preppin' for a south Texas trip starting next week. All I can say is, thank god for Irish Rich, the dude is my hero - even after 6 years, always watching and grilling me in order to teach me how to do shit right the first time. Remind myself on a weekly basis how fortunate I am to have him in my life, on any level.
New rear master cylinder, primary belt and pulleys, chain, shifter pawl shaft, tranny gaskets and seals. Also, new rubber going on tomorrow, my tires are shot.
This bike has seen its fair share of miles these past three and a half years. Every time I tear it down or get back from a trip, there's something I need to adjust, fix, or replace. Nothing's ever easy. Sometimes I feel it would be a hell of a lot easier with a stock bike and warranty....but what the hell fun would that be?
Big thanks to Randall down at Deluxe Motorcycle Shop here in Denver(SouthWest corner of 38th Ave and Kipling). The dude is the real deal and a good friend, always bends over backwards to help us out when we need something done that Rich and I aren't able to do at Shamrock...
You live in the Denver area and need a good mechanic?? - Randall is the guy you need to introduce yourself to.
From Nick Pew - Head organizer of Love Thy Chopper, Owner of Landmark Tattoo here in Denver, friend, and part of the 100mph crew. When someone else talks about how much they ride, Nick is doing it.
Fakers beware...
Make your way the Rockies - July 15th... and pass the word.
...finally. - In the case of nausea and vomiting associated with cancer chemotherapy, anorexia and cachexia in HIV/AIDS, chronic neuropathic pain, spasticity in multiple sclerosis and spinal cord injuries - there is solid evidence of these sliders having medical benefits. Don't hate....
Days ahead of its release, my good friend we refer to as the "music nazi" and a High On Fire fanatic, got me the new album to, uh, "sample".
Holy Shit! That is all I have to say about the new High On Fire cd. Yes, I jumped the gun on the Black Keys new album before it came out, thinking that it was gonna be one of their best yet, I was dead wrong. I wouldn't put the new Black Keys album in their top five. A "poppy" disappointment to say the least.....but....
This High On Fire album is everything a metal fan would and should want from a head banging, hell raising band. They bring something to metal that no other band does now-a-days, I can't really put my finger on it, but they fucking rule. I think it's their best material yet, and that says a lot.
Songs Serums of Liao, Spiritual Rites, and De Vermis Mysteriis kick your ass from beginning to end. Others, like Madness of an Architect(one of my personal favorites) and Romulus and Remus will blow your mind with Des Kensel's drum beats. Then there's Samsara, an instrumental and one of the best songs on the cd with Pike ripping his guitar through your head and out your ass. Warhorn will fool you with it's slower tempo, then make you wanna fight someone when it picks up time after time. Finally, my favorite song of the album would have to be King Of Days, listen to it and decide for yourself. FUCK. YES.
Being bedridden with a sickness from hell these last few days, listening to this album over and over has been my only motivation to get up, even getting my ill ass on the chop for some 100mph action... it has that affect.
I'm definitely gonna buy the album on tuesday and recommend any other person reading this, with any pleasure for metal, to do the same. You won't be disappointed.
For more info from so-called experts, here's some words from action-pr.com:
De Vermis Mysteriis (or “Mysteries of the Worm”) takes its title from a fictional grimoire created by Psycho author Robert Bloch and incorporated by H. P. Lovecraft into the lore of the Cthulhu Mythos (Lovecraft mentioned De Vermis Mysteriis as one of the books that “repeat the most hellish secrets learnt by early man”). The album carries a deeply mystical undercurrent, incorporating fantastical themes and lyrics detailing, among other things, time travel, a serum called liao that is made out of a black lotus and “a Jesus twin who can see the past through his ancestors’ eyes.” And that’s just scratching the surface!
Musically, De Vermis Mysteriis is absolutely explosive, showcasing the California power trio’s thundering roar and expanded harmonic and rhythmic palettes while the songs move confidently through multiple riffs and movements. HIGH ON FIRE construct tough, burly stoner metal that is at once devastatingly epic and mercilessly metallic as superstar guitarist Matt Pike‘s sizzling ax and avenging-angel riffs fuse with Des Kensel‘s double-kick-drum onslaught and Jeff Matz‘s concrete crushing, Burton-esque bass guitar. Over the course of forty-five minutes, HIGH ON FIRE have created an amalgamation of fantastical lyrical ideas and brute force musicianship anchored in an endlessly captivating, punkishly frantic sound. Simply put, the band generates awesome on demand and has a virtual chokehold on monolithic-sounding, masterfully crafted epic music. HIGH ON FIRE is a savage bull in the china shop of modern metal.
When asked for comment on De Vermis Mysteriis, Pike somewhat cryptically replied, “Prepare for your dark journey.”
This isn't the album cover, but it should be.
