Rolling Vegas - NightRide

Every year, Rich and I roll thru Vegas at night on our way to L.A. for the 4th of July Sinner Party. Even though it's 100 degrees at night - it's probably one of my favorite stops on the trip. Long days and the desert heat can wear the shit out of you, but Speedway Blvd. is always a place I love hitting up on our way before ripping thru town... This footage is old and the video is kind of thrown together, but it brings back good memories and makes me realize that a year without riding out to L.A. with my good friend is something I don't want to have happen again any time soon. It's a trip that brings many laughs and too many great moments to recall. Most bikers have an annual trip that they look forward to year after year, this is one of mine. Also, there's something about riding through a busy city on a motorcycle that gets my blood running, maybe it's the danger of it all.....?

Primos Helmet Design -

Sent two beat-up 3/4 helmets out to Rene at Primos Helmet Design and here's what he came up with. Josie Whales up in mine with some maroon velvet and some shamrocks with green velvet in my brother Benny's. Rene is a good guy and he does a great job. Send him your helmet, size, and what you want put into it and he'll hook it up...

Races -

Great day at the races. Perfect weather and some close finishes...

The BSA on the end(#67), closest to my camera - tore up the track. This guy owned the dirt - but tried taking the lead with 1 1/2 laps left, took the corner too fast and fell behind. He came back the last lap and lost by a half a wheel at the finish. Great race.

Sturgis 2010

I'm back.
Roughly 2,000+ miles in the past two weeks and I'm ready for more. Made my two trips up to South Dakota and back, hitting a total of about 10 minutes of rain while riding. Pretty much a perfect trip from start to finish. Great time, weather, and riding. Did some riding with my dad, Rich, and got out on my own when I needed it. Didn't get to ride as much as I would have liked this past week, but I hit up a lot of different show, events, and hung out with the old guys. Spearfish Canyon was a nightmare on Monday and I got my fix the week before the rally, so I did the whole downtown and partying deal during rally week.
Ran into Big Ben from Wisco along with his girl Dre and crew at The Spoke, as well as Kevin Bass, dude cracks my ass up. Stogie was out there snapping photos and I also ran into a guy named Cy, who I met at a gas station in the Mojave"fucking" Desert last summer. I was on the chop riding through with Rich on our way back to Denver from L.A. when we met, he was on his BSA heading back to Grand Junction, CO. We hung out for a while cooling off and getting to know each other for about an hour since it was 110 degrees out. I ran into him in Sturgis at The Horse chopper show at the Throttle last year, then again, twice this year... Small world.
If any of you happen to see Rich, ask him about Woody. Hilarious story - one I'll never forget. If you don't find it amusing, I guess you just had to be there.

Here's some photos of what went down. I took a lot, so more are on the way.....

A man on a motorcycle led authorities on a multi-county chase Thursday that topped speeds of 130 mph down Boulder Canyon at one point.

Authorities in Gilpin County began chasing the rider at about 11:30 a.m. on Colo. 119 south of Nederland after he sped off when a deputy tried to pull him over for speeding and passing cars on a double-yellow line.

Boulder County sheriff’s deputies briefly joined in the pursuit, but were quickly called off.

The rider, according to police estimates, reached speeds in excess of 130 mph down Boulder Canyon as he entered the city of Boulder.

Boulder police Sgt. Jack Walker said officers spotted the rider throughout the city during the day, but didn’t give chase.

“We’re not going to chase a motorcycle going 130 mph for speeding,” he said.

Officers saw the rider pass the Boulder County Justice Center and run a red light at the intersection of Ninth Street and Canyon Boulevard, according to police radio traffic.

The rider was described as wearing a white helmet, a black jacket and tan pants. He was on a black “crotch-rocket” type motorcycle with dual headlights.

Walker said city officers pulled over several riders matching the description, but none turned out to be the suspect.

If caught, the rider faces possible charges of felony eluding and failing to yield for police.

Kawakami

Mark Kawakami, a friend and talented photographer, was in Denver the other week. He did an interview and shot a bunch of photos while he was visiting Rich and I. He's a great guy and puts together some really nice articles and snap shots of some of the most talented builders out there today. He's been posting some of the pictures from when he shot my bike and the article on Rich should be out soon. Check him out at JoyridesArtCompany - the link to his blog is on this page.... A digital camera doesn't make you a photographer, this guy gets it done right.

Goin Back

Heading back to South Dakota tomorrow. For the most part, the sun was shining and the wind was at my back during my first trip up there. Saw a few BIG storms in the distance riding up, but ended up dodging the few that were in Wyoming and South Dakota. I did hit a pretty big storm coming into Cheyenne on my way home, but nothing I couldn't wait out. Lost a couple screws while I was in Sturgis, a couple for my mirror and one for my points cover. All in all, the chop held up pretty well. Had to re-set my ignition, adjust my chain, and weld up my headlight bucket today at the shop - nothing too serious. This week is gonna rock. Meeting Rich in Buckhorn on Monday to ride in with him, hitting up Lichter's exhibit(which Rich and I were suppose to build bikes for - financially couldn't do it) as well as industry party on Tuesday night, and gonna try and make it to see The Swayback, Eagles of Death Metal, Wolfmother, and STP on Wednesday night at Glencoe. Gonna tear up the roads, do my fair-share of drinking, and tail-chasing if I feel the need in between all of that. Whatever happens, happens... Black clouds and wicked lightning are a biker's worst enemy, you see em, take cover or get the hell out of their path. Having a front fender and windshield always helps - unless you're riding a chop - guess I'm shit out of luck.
